Setup Guide

ELRS WiFi Binding for iOS Simulators

Use your ELRS radio as a joystick on your iPhone. No USB, no extra adapters, just WiFi.

Before You Start

Option A - Home WiFi

Use an existing 2.4 GHz router. Connect both your iPhone and your ELRS module to it. Simple if you are already at home.

Option B - iPhone Hotspot

Turn your iPhone into the router. Recommended when flying away from home or if your home WiFi is 5 GHz only.

Step-by-Step

1

Turn On Your Hotspot or Connect to a WiFi Network

Your iPhone and your ELRS module need to be on the same 2.4 GHz network.

Option A - iPhone Hotspot

Go to Settings → Personal Hotspot and turn it on. Note the Hotspot Name and Password. If you see "Maximize Compatibility", turn it on to force 2.4 GHz.

Also go to Settings → Cellular → WiFi Assist and turn it off. Otherwise iOS will silently fall back to cellular and drop the connection mid-session.

Option B - Home WiFi

Make sure your router has a 2.4 GHz band and your iPhone is connected to it. Have the network name (SSID) and password ready for Step 4.

2

Put Your ELRS Module into WiFi Mode

On your radio, open the ELRS Lua Script, scroll down to WiFi Connectivity, and select Enable WiFi.

3

Connect Your iPhone to the ELRS Hotspot

Your ELRS module will now broadcast its own WiFi network (usually named something like ExpressLRS TX). Connect your iPhone to that network in Settings → WiFi.

Default password is expresslrs
4

Open the ELRS Web Interface and Enter Your Network

In Safari or Chrome on your iPhone, go to 10.0.0.1 or elrs_tx.local. The ELRS configuration page should load.

  • Option A (Home WiFi): Enter your home router network name (SSID) and password into the Home Network fields.
  • Option B (Hotspot): Enter your iPhone Hotspot Name and password into the Home Network fields.

Hit Save, then restart the ELRS WiFi from the Lua script. The module will disconnect from its own broadcast and join the network you entered.

5

Reconnect Your iPhone to the Same Network

After the ELRS module restarts, it will join the network you entered. Make sure your iPhone is also on that same network:

  • Option A (Home WiFi): Your iPhone should already be connected. Just confirm it has not switched networks.
  • Option B (Hotspot): Go to Settings → WiFi and connect back to your own Personal Hotspot.
6

Enable WiFi Joystick in Your Simulator

Open your FPV sim app (e.g. Velocidrone) and go into Game Settings. Find the WiFi Joystick toggle and turn it on.

  • When prompted, allow the app to find devices on your local network.
Press Allow when prompted with "Allow [app] to find devices on local network?". If you accidentally tap Don't Allow, go to Settings → Privacy → Local Network and toggle the app back on.
7

Activate WiFi Mode on Your Radio

Back on your radio, open the ELRS Lua script and Enable WiFi again. The module is now broadcasting over your shared network and the simulator should detect it.

Make sure "WiFi Joystick Enabled" is turned ON inside Velocidrone's game settings - it's off by default and easy to miss.
8

Calibrate Your Sticks

Follow the simulator's prompts to move your gimbals corner-to-corner to calibrate and assign the channels. You're ready to fly!
